Expert podiatrist, Laura Schweger, DPM, brings more than 20 years of experience in foot and ankle care to Optima Foot and Ankle, serving the men, women, and families of Deschutes County, at the convenient location in Bend, Oregon.

Dr. Schweger began her professional pursuits at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, inside Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. There, she excelled in the program and earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Following graduation, Dr. Schweger moved west and completed a residency at Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Stanford Medicine, in Palo Alto, California. She subsequently moved to Central Oregon, opening her private practice in 1997.

Dr. Schweger is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and holds hospital privileges at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon.

As a podiatrist, Dr. Schweger enjoys getting to know her patients. She listens to each individual’s unique symptoms, concerns, and goals for treatment and develops custom care plans that ease pain, improve mobility, and encourage active, healthy lifestyles. Evan Ross, DPM

Evan M. Ross, DPM, is one of the skilled podiatrists practicing at Optima Foot and Ankle, which has a location in Bend, Oregon.

Dr. Ross is a native of the Appalachian mountains, where he grew up on a small horse farm just outside Elkins, West Virginia. Dr. Ross has a bachelor’s degree in animal veterinary sciences from West Virginia University.

Dr. Ross then earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, Ohio. From there, Dr. Ross sought residency training in Passaic, New Jersey at St. Mary’s Hospital, where he received three-years of intense surgical and outpatient-based training in reconstructive surgery of the foot & ankle.

Dr. Ross is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and enjoys all forms of podiatric foot and ankle care with an emphasis on patient education and conservative care as the first lines of treatment.

In his spare time, Dr. Ross enjoys fly fishing, playing the guitar, and hiking.

Jenna Mackay, DPM

Dr. Mackay is the newest member of the Optima Team., She is originally from Northern Alberta Canada but grew up in Clarkston WA. After completing her undergraduate degree at WSU, she pursued her DPM at the California School of Podiatric Medicine in Oakland California. While at Podiatry school she participated in soccer and won Best All Around in their class baking competition., After completing her DPM she moved to Ohio for a 3 year surgical residency. She was chosen to be Chief Resident in her 3rd year, over seeing 15 residents. Upon completion of her residency she moved to Boise Idaho where she practiced for 4 years before joining the Optima Team., In her spare time, Dr. Mackay enjoys spending time with her daughter Emma, her husband Ian, and their two golden retrievers.

Kyle Villaruz, DPM, AACFAS, is joining the Optima Foot and Ankle team.

Dr. Villaruz is a Pacific Northwest native and grew up in Federal Way, WA. He earned a BS in Chemistry at the University of Washington. Afterward, he went on to earn his DPM degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a 3 year surgical residency at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Texas. He had the privilege of training throughout the greater North Dallas area of Texas, gaining heavy exposure to elective surgery including foot and ankle reconstruction and trauma. Following this he practiced for just over 2 years in Southern Oregon prior to joining the Optima Team.

Dr. Villaruz is board-certified by American Board of Podiatric Medicine and board-qualified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle by American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He enjoys connecting with and educating his patients on foot and ankle pathology as well as discussing treatment options.

In his spare time, Dr. Villaruz enjoys spending time getting outside year round with his wife and dog. His hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, basketball, and recently he started playing pickleball.
